The New World Movie Story - Synopsis. Inspired by the legend of John Smith and Pocahontas, The New World is an adventure set during the founding of a settlement in 1607. In the 17th century, North America is much as it has been for the previous centuries a vast land of primeval wilderness populated by tribal cultures. Although these nations live in perfect harmony with their environment, their relations with each other are a bit more complicated. On a spring day in April of 1607, three small ships bearing 103 men sail into this world from England, three thousand miles to the east across the atlantic. On behalf of their sponsor, the Virginia Company, they are seeking to establish a foothold on the coast of what they regard as the New World. The lead ship of the flotilla is called the Susan Constant with in her brig a man named John Smith, destined to be hanged for insubordination as soon as the ship anchors. A veteran of countless European wars, Smith is a soldier of fortune. Starring: Colin Farrell, Christopher Plummer, Wes Studi, August Schellenberg and Raoul Trujillo. |
