Over the Hedge Movie Story - Synopsis. It's spring and Verne the turtle and his friends see a green "thing" that has cropped up right through their house. Enter RJ, a con-artist raccoon, who explains that the world beyond the hedge is the "gateway to food and wealth. A little jealous of RJ, Verne wants to keep his family safely on their side of the hedge. But, proving the adage that one man's garbage is another man's treasure, RJ tries to convince the woodland animals that there is little to fear and everything to gain from their new neighbors. Eventually, RJ and Verne form an unlikely friendship as they learn to co-exist with this strange new world of the humans called suburbia. Bruce Willis is the voice of the raccoon named RJ, and Garry Shandling voices the turtle named Verne in computer-animated movie "Over the Hedge."
