An American Haunting Movie Story - Synopsis. Between the years 1818-1820, the Bell Family was visited by an unknown being that haunted the family and eventually ended up causing the death of John Bell (Donald Sutherland. ) Starting with sounds around the farm, and the sighting of a strange creature with strange yellow eyes, the sounds escalated into full contact with certain family members, causing physical as well as psychological torment. The attacks became more fierce and the spirit was dragging, slapping, pulling and beating Betsy, the Bell’s daughter. The Bells searched for an explanation and tried to get rid of the demon as the spirit began to communicate with them through sounds. Fearing that the haunting was caused by a local woman who had put a curse upon the family , the Bells tried desperately to find ways of getting rid of that curse, yet the attacks and disturbances only escalated, resulting in the dead of John.
