American Dreamz Movie Story - Synopsis. Director PAUL WEITZ turns his camera on a nation obsessed with fame and hype culture. In this satire, Weitz follows “American Dreamz” hopefuls, an American President who is attempting to get back to reality and a terrorist who wants to blow up the free world’s leader on the one of the country’s most watchedr television program. Set in a world where pop culture and government rhetoric begin to feel similar, the film questions a reality in which the President is ineffective while the country grows more and more obsessed with a stupid television contest. Acting in American Dreamz is an impressive roster of talent including HUGH GRANT , DENNIS QUAID , MANDY MOORE, MARCIA GAY HARDEN (Mystic River, Pollock), CHRIS KLEIN (Just Friends, American Pie), JENNIFER COOLIDGE (Legally Blonde, American Pie) and WILLEM DAFOE (Spider-Man, Inside Man). Rounding off the acting set are young people like JUDY GREER (13 Going on 30), JOHN CHO (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle) and SETH MEYERS (Saturday Night Live). They are joined by multiple actors with impeccable comic timing, including SHOHREH AGHDASHLOO (House of Sand and Fog), and newcomers SAM GOLZARI and TONY YALDA. The President decides to read the newspaper for the first time in four years on the morning of the elections. He begins reading obsessively, reexamining his black and white view of the world, holing up in his bedroom in his pajamas. His Chief of Staff pushes him back into the spotlight, booking him as a guest the weekly talent show American Dreamz. America can't seem to get enough of American Dreamz, hosted by Martin Tweed, ever on the lookout for the next celeb. His latest crowd includes Sally, a girl with a devoted, dopey veteran boyfriend, and Omer, an immigrant. When both Sally and Omer make it to the final round, where the President will be judging as a guest the stage is set for a show the no one will never forget.
